Hi-VAWT is a manufacturer, producer and installer of vertical axis small wind turbines (VASWT). The company is located in Taiwan but, as their products have been proven to be among the best in the world, they now have clients in many different countries. The company website states “Think for next generation. Living with nature. Hi-VAWT for the future.”
Hi-Vawt features a variety of different products. Along with the vertical axis wind turbines, they also produce hybrid street light systems, which combine the vertical axis wind turbine along with a solar panel to produce the energy needed to power streetlights. These hybrid systems have successfully been installed in China and South Korea.
Hi-VAWT has installed vertical axis wind turbines in the USA, South Korea, China, Taiwan and Tibet. In the US, the most notable installation by the company is the installation of the DS-3000W Grid-tied Application at Clarendon Hills Middle School,Clarendon Hills,IL.

DS-300W Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
The DS-300 is the smallest vertical axis wind turbine produced by Hi-VAWT. It is designed for wind speeds of approximately 13.5 m/s (31MPH). The turbine stands about 5.06m (16’6″) in height and weighs about 25.5 KGS (56 pounds). The axis and the blades are made of anodized aluminum and there is an automatic short circuit braking system as well as a manual braking system. The design is an external 3-blade Darrieus design with an internal 2-layers Savonius design. Maximum output is 300W.
DS-1500W Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
The DS-1500 is the medium size vertical axis wind turbine produced by Hi-VAWT. It is designed for wind speeds of approximately 12 m/s (27MPH). The turbine stands about 6.99m (23′) in height and weighs about 380 KGS (837 pounds). The axis is made of galvanized steel while the blades are made of anodized aluminum and there is an automatic short circuit braking system as well as a manual braking system. The design is an external 3-blade Darrieus design with an internal 2-layers Savonius design. Maximum output is 1.5KW.
DS-3000W Vertical Axis Wind Turbine
The DS-3000 is the largest vertical axis wind turbine produced by Hi-VAWT. It is designed for wind speeds of approximately 12 m/s (27MPH). The turbine stands about 8.16m (27′) in height and weighs about 680 KGS (1500 pounds). The axis is made of galvanized steel while the blades are made of anodized aluminum and there is an automatic short circuit braking system as well as a manual braking system. The design is an external 3-blade Darrieus design with an internal 2-layers Savonius design. Maximum output is 3KW.
Hybrid Street Lighting Systems
The street light system combines a DS-300W Vertical Axis Wind Turbine and 85W Solar Panel together with modern design of lamp pole, providing an independent (off-grid), self-sufficient lighting application. The controller is installed with a wind power controller as well as a solar power charger- both of which are paralleled for charging. The system is designed for the standard lamp pole design but customization is possible for other types of poles.

- Integrated WG0400 wind controller/RC10-II solar charger.
